MP Parimal Nathwani Welcomes the Interim Relief

Ranchi, 6 April: Supreme Court today granted an interim relief and stayed the demolition drive undertaken by the Jharkhand government and the authorities under the high
court order. Rajya Sabha member Mr Parimal Nathwani has welcomed the supreme court’s stay order and said it would provide a great deal of respite to the people from agony of demolition and use of force by the authorities.

Mr Mohammad Shakil, a resident of Islamnagar had filed an SLP in Supreme Court for staying the proceedings and implementation of the high court’s order; for restraining the state government and authorities from proceedings with the demolition drive; and also to maintain the status quo. The Supreme Court had admitted the petition yesterday itself which was taken up on board today afternoon. The Supreme Court considered it sympathetically and issued an interim relief on the humanitarian ground.

The decision of the Supreme Court came as a respite not only to the people of Islamnagar but also all those on whom the danger of demolition loomed at large; as Mr Shakil’s petition covered all those areas where the bulldozers were to be run.

Mr Nathwani who has been actively addressing educational, sanitation and social awareness issues in Islamnagar through HOP-an NGP; said in a press-statement issued today that
despite his requests through letters to the government authorities to wait for a day for the Supreme Court opinion, the authorities continued their mindless drive ruthlessly and indirectly dishonored the highest court of the country. The authorities erased Islamnagar mercilessly. This was highly deplorable; he said and added that the damage done so far to the poor could not be compensated. He was however happy for those who could be saved from the wrath of the authorities.

Mr Nathwani complimented Mr Dushyant Dave, the senior counsel of the supreme court, who is known for taking up noble cause of the poor and slum-dwellers. Mr Dave ably presented the case of Mr Shakil before the Supreme Court which resulted in a greater relief to the section of the people, he added.
